Verse of the Day
Then Pilate had Jesus flogged with a lead-tipped whip [NLT] John 19:1. When Jesus came out wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe, Pilate said to them, “Here is the man!” As soon as the chief priests and their officials saw him, they shouted, “Crucify! Crucify!” But Pilate answered, “You take him and crucify him. As for me, I find no basis for a charge against him.” [NIV] John 19:5-6
The kind of whipping Jesus received at the hands of the Roman soldiers and mockery was not enough to appease the people, nor exhaust the curse and the verdict they wanted. Even though He was stripped naked, fastened to a pillar and severely whipped with a lead-tipped whip to the point of death, where all his skin came off, as gruesome as it was; this still was not enough to satisfy the people and agree for Jesus’ release. But instead they wanted Him crucified, a punishment usually inflicted for the worst of crimes; a form of punishment that is of Roman Origin and not Jewish; and remarkable too, that they should call for, and desire the kind of death the Scriptures had pointed that the Messiah would die, and which Jesus predicted also. “But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed” Isaiah 53:5. My Lord #Jesus went through such a harrowing ordeal that I may live a life of peace. Oh what manner of love is this?
