Verse of the Day

“What is more pleasing to the LORD: your burnt offerings and sacrifices or your obedience to his voice? Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice, and submission is better than offering the fat of rams. [NLT] 1 Samuel 15:22

……

The etymology of the word obey revealed that obedience is more about listening and less about complying with rules. In other words, to obey is to listen and thus obedience is a kind of “Deep listening”. And when you’re so deep in listening, it’s much easier to hear what is being said, and harkening to the voice you’re listening to. Have you been so busy doing one thing or the other, thinking that by getting busy with the things you think that pleases God, that you’re indirectly obeying His words? When was the last time, you sat down, leaving all the cares of the world behind and just listened to the Voice of God, to what God wants to say to you? I know sometimes it can be really hard, especially when you’re trying to juggle being a full time parent, a full time career person, family responsibilities, ministry work and other relationships? I’m sure after a full day your exhausted body is looking for a comfortable bed to rest on. I know it’s not going to be easy, but God is telling us here that obedience/deep listening to His voice and understanding His plans for us is much pleasing to Him than doing what we think will please Him. Which one would you rather do? Do the things that He tells you pleases Him, or do the ones you think would please Him? Which of the two do you think God would accept or reject from you? #VerseoftheDay #SamuelChallenge
