Verse of the Day

By this time it was about noon, and darkness fell across the whole land until three o’clock. The light from the sun was gone. And suddenly, the curtain in the sanctuary of the Temple was torn down the middle. Then Jesus shouted, “Father, I entrust my spirit into your hands!” And with those words he breathed his last. [NLT] Luke 23:44-46

……..

Had not Jesus Christ been so rejected by men, we would have been forever rejected of God. Jesus was delivered into the hands of wicked and unreasonable men, was led to a hill of shame, hungry, thirsty, and wounded, beaten, bloodied, exhausted; that we might escape, that I may be free. He was nailed to the cross, as a Sacrifice bound to the altar. The Scripture was fulfilled; he did not die at the altar among the sacrifices, but among criminals sacrificed to public justice. I wonder if it was just for such a man to die so cruel a death. But He did, so that I may be justified.

Let us pause, and with faith look upon Jesus. Was ever sorrow like unto his sorrow? See him bleeding, see him dying, see him and love him! Love him, and live for him! [Matthew Henry]. It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost [John 19:30]. Jesus on the cross, who was made sin for me, for us, that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him. It is finished, He was punished so that I will know peace, He was wounded so that I could experience healing, and He died, so that I could live. My Lord and my God, what manner of love is this?

Verse of the Day

Then Pilate had Jesus flogged with a lead-tipped whip [NLT] John 19:1. When Jesus came out wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe, Pilate said to them, “Here is the man!”  As soon as the chief priests and their officials saw him, they shouted, “Crucify! Crucify!” But Pilate answered, “You take him and crucify him. As for me, I find no basis for a charge against him.” [NIV] John 19:5-6

…….

The kind of whipping Jesus received at the hands of the Roman soldiers and mockery was not enough to appease the people, nor exhaust the curse and the verdict they wanted. Even though He was stripped naked, fastened to a pillar and severely whipped with a lead-tipped whip to the point of death, where all his skin came off, as gruesome as it was; this still was not enough to satisfy the people and agree for Jesus’ release. But instead they wanted Him crucified, a punishment usually inflicted for the worst of crimes; a form of punishment that is of Roman Origin and not Jewish; and remarkable too, that they should call for, and desire the kind of death the Scriptures had pointed that the Messiah would die, and which Jesus predicted also. “But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed” Isaiah 53:5. My Lord #Jesus went through such a harrowing ordeal that I may live a life of peace. Oh what manner of love is this?
